Braby install silos in Saudi Arabia

With the world-wide increase in demand for their non-woven medical materials, Advanced Fabrics (SAAF) turned to Braby to supply them with an additional four silos to stand alongside their existing silos which Braby supplied three years ago.

The four 230m3 aluminium silos were required to store polypropylene granules, used in the manufacture of a range of products with end markets from disposable medical equipment such as surgical gowns and masks to component fabrics used in baby nappies around the world.

At 4.2m diameter and 19m tall, the shipment of the silos to site in Saudi Arabia was a key part of the contract in terms of both logistics and cost. In order to keep transport costs to a minimum, Braby manufactured the silos with a difference in diameter of 75mm. This enabled the silos to be ‘racked’ one inside the other for transport which significantly reduced the cost to Advanced Fabrics.

The silos were transported in two sections: one consisting of the four shell and roof sections and one of the four cone and lower supporting sections. Braby were contracted to supervise the installation of the silos on site to ensure that the complex operation of bolting and welding the two sections of each silo together went smoothly.


Braby were especially pleased to work with Advanced Fabrics as they have recently been awarded the prestigious “Entrepreneur Achievement Award” by INDA (Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry). This award is only presented once every 3 years for a newly founded and innovative company who makes a significant impact on the Engineered Fabrics industry.
